Make sure your kids are up to date with vaccinations: Public Health

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is encouraging parents to make sure their kids are fully vaccinated, so they can stay in daycare or school.

This month the health unit plans to review vaccination records. As part of the Immunization of School Pupils Act, parents are required to have a record of their child’s vaccination status for several diseases such as tetanus, measles and rubella, chicken pox and whooping cough to name a few.

The health unit says records of vaccinations received at local health care providers are not shared with public health, so its parents’ responsibility to update their child’s record.

They encourage parents to update immunization records, which you can do through the health unit’s “ICON” website, and to book appointments for outstanding vaccines.

And more information on immunizations – as well as parents’ rights – is available on the Day Care-School Immunization section of the Hastings & Prince Edward Health website.
