North Hastings District Hospital Auxiliary needs more volunteers

More volunteers are needed to support Bancroft’s hospital.

The North Hastings District Hospital Auxiliary once had a strong roster, but it got depleted when the pandemic hit.

With things getting a little more normal now, President Glenna Armstrong says the Auxiliary could use the support of dozens more volunteers. They may staff the Auxiliary’s Corner Cafe on Manor Lane, the New to You Store on Hastings Street, or do work inside North Hastings Hospital.

Armstrong says those who donate their time get the thrill of knowing they’re working with a great team and making a positive difference.

“All our volunteers at New to You and the Cafe are really friendly and they really work well together,” she says. “It’s a really nice environment to work in.”

Armstrong says volunteering is a great social activity for retired people, but the work isn’t limited to seniors. Students, who need community service hours, or those who just have a few hours a week to donate are welcome, too.

“Anybody,” says Armstrong. “People who retire early, people who (work) part time and can give us a couple hours. Any age at all.”

Funds raised at the store and Cafe support the hospital, including its campaign to fundraise for a CT-scanner.
