Heritage Museum to go with independent board

A recent town council decision puts the Bancroft North Hastings Heritage Museum in a better position to find new funding opportunities.

Bancroft council voted last week to dissolve the board for the museum, meaning it will no longer be under the supervision of the municipality.

A report to council said such a move would allow the board to become independent, meaning the board could more easily apply for grants and have fewer financial reporting fees.

Coun. Mary Kavanagh, who works closely with the museum, called it a “win-win” situation.

The museum’s log building, at the entrance of Riverside Park, will still be maintained by the town, but leased to the museum board.
