Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is confirming a case of tick-borne encephalitis locally.
It says it has received a report of the case and that it’s under investigation. Although there’s no treatment for this uncommon infection, it can cause a range of symptoms from fever and headache to confusion and weakness. Those infected often need to be hospitalized.
HPEPH says Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne infection in our area and that we usually see between six and 14 cases per year.
