Hastings Highlands has seen a dramatic increase in construction projects, since the onset of the pandemic.
Two reports going to council show that the rural municipality– known for its picturesque lakes – is seeing unprecedented growth.
A report from the municipality’s chief building official says that in 2022, a record 335 building permits were issued for homes or businesses, with a total construction value of more than $32 million.
That’s up from 2021, when there were 318 new builds, for a total value of about $19 million.
In 2019, the last year before the pandemic changed things, there were 243 building permits issued, with a construction value of about $13.5 million.
