Cause of Whytes Road house fire “undetermined,” says Fire Marshall

Investigators could not determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a Whytes Road home in November, leading to the discovery of two bodies inside.

A spokesperson from the Office of Ontario’s Fire Marshall tells MyBancroftNow.com that the investigation has concluded but the cause of the fire has been listed as “undetermined.”

Meanwhile, the identity of the victims and the cause of their death is still not public.

A Bancroft OPP spokesperson said police are waiting for a report from the Office of the Chief Coroner, but that could take months. When that report comes, it could re-spark an investigation.

Police have not updated their last statement on the case, which is that the remains of two people were found inside the home and that the home’s owners are unaccounted for.

Police and fire crews were called to the home, in the Township of Carlow-Mayo on Friday, Nov. 4.

When they arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames. Six days later they announced that two bodies had been discovered amongst the wreckage.

Anyone who has information on the case is asked to call OPP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
