Rockhounds to host Playing for a Cure on Feb. 12

The Bancroft Rockhounds won’t just be playing hockey on Sunday, Feb. 12; they’ll be Playing for a Cure for cancer, too.

The Bancroft Rockhounds will turn their game against the Muskoka Shield into a fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario’s cancer programs. The game is scheduled for noon at the North Hastings Community Centre.

The Rockhounds will wear special jerseys during warmups and, after the game, they’ll be auctioned off, with proceeds supporting CHEO. There will be other opportunities to donate to CHEO at the game, too.

Rockhounds director Jamie Eastman says the team wanted to hold the special event because both players and coaches on the staff have had friends and family members impacted by childhood cancer.

The auction will be held on the ice after the game and bids can be made in person or online through the team’s website.
