Bancroft to look out for Eagles Nest

Bancroft has high hopes for The Eagles Nest.

The town will work to maintain the iconic park and lookout spot for another five years.

At a meeting Tuesday, Feb. 14, councillors approved a memorandum of understanding between the town and The Stewards of Bancroft Eagles Nest Park. It allows the groups to work on numerous initiatives to keep the park as a popular tourist spot.

Councillor Valerie Miles, who’s worked on initiatives with the park in the past, said this year supporters hope to keep working on fundraising initiatives and compile data to show many people are using the park. She also says park supporters are thinking of ways to improve the parking lot.

She said there’s no shortage of interest in the spot, as every time she was there last summer it was “packed.”

Mayor Paul Jenkins added the road leading to the park was once “terrible” but has improved greatly with work from the town.
