North Hastings to receive provincial gas tax money for transit

Nearly $80,000 of provincial gas tax money is being pumped back into North Hastings.

Ontario announced Thursday that Bancroft will receive $79,713 for public transit programs, which will be shared with Hastings Highlands and Wollaston.

It’s part of a nearly $380 million province-wide commitment to allow municipalities to extend services, buy transit vehicles, add routes, improve accessibility or upgrade infrastructure.

Hastings-Lennox & Addington MPP Ric Bresee says the announcement affirms the province’s commitment to municipalities.

He says the amount of gas purchased by Ontarians has declined in recent years, but the province wants to keep gas tax funding to towns consistent.

There’s no word yet from the three municipalities on how the money will be spent.
