Students’ work on display at Art Gallery of Bancroft

The future of art in the region is bright.

More than 40 works will be shown at the Art Gallery of Bancroft’s first ever Student Exhibition, which opens Thursday, March 2.

Organizers say it’s an impressive collection of submissions made by students from North Hastings High School, Madawaska Valley District High School and Haliburton Highlands Secondary School.

An opening ceremony takes place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. And the works will remain at the Flint Avenue gallery until April 1. Thursday’s event will also include an awards ceremony, as it’s a juried exhibition.

Mary Williams, of the gallery, calls the submissions an “impressive mix of high-caliber work” which includes drawings, paintings, mixed media and three-dimensional works.  An example of one of the artworks is below.

This work, called the Abyss of Time, is by Mya Jones.
