Spectacle Lake Lodge is the place to be this weekend if you love snowmobile racing.
The resort, off Highway 60 west of Barry’s Bay, is hosting an Ontario Oval Snowmobile Racers event on Saturday and Sunday.
Racing on both days starts at 10 a.m. and the event concludes with Ontario Junior Snowmobile Championship races on Sunday.
Rick Greenfield, of the Oval Racers, says a wide variety of racing classes will hit the ice track at the resort and racers will range from ages 6 to over 60.
More than 50 racers and several family members and fans are expected at the Lodge throughout the weekend. Greenfield encourages people to come out to see the family-oriented sport.
“We like smaller events like this,” he says. “It’s more of a family atmosphere. Everyone has time to walk around and talk to people and see what everyone has been up to. It really is a community with us; it always has been. Everyone talks about it being family.”
Moose FM will be broadcasting “live” for Sunday’s junior championships, with our morning host Joël Lamoureux cheering on the racers and providing commentary.
