Bancroft men charged after tools stolen from trailer

Two Bancroft men have been charged following a break and enter investigation.

Bancroft OPP was called to a trailer in Hastings Highland, which had been broken into. Police found $60,000 worth of construction tools were stolen.

A suspect was found and arrested on March 2. That led to a search warrant being issued for a home on Highway 28 in Highlands East on March 3. The tools were recovered there and a second man was arrested.

One man is 37 years old and he’s been charged with possession of stolen property and break and enter. The other is 44. He faces the same charges, plus additional charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle, fleeing a police officer and possession of meth.

The two had a bail hearing last week and are still in custody.  Their case is now before courts in Belleville.

Police say the case is a reminder that leaving trailers on job sites increases your risk of being a crime victim. They encourage workers to block off access points.
