Bancroft high schoolers win several awards in student art exhibit

The jury has spoken at the Art Gallery of Bancroft’s first Under 19 Student Exhibition. Several awards were handed out at last week’s opening night.

Four North Hastings High School students took home prizes. Clara Vance won first place in the painting/mixed media category and Elizabeth Cox won second place in sculptures.

Also, two awards went to Bancroft-area students who are homeschooled. Angus Kelly won first place in the sculpture/3-D category. And Fainen Kelly won honourable mention in the same category.

The exhibition will remain on display at the Flint Avenue gallery until April 1st. Visitors can vote for a final People’s Choice Award, to be handed out when the exhibition closes.

The student art show is considered a revival of a previous tradition; the Michal Manson Memorial Student Exhibition, which last took place in 2016.
