Highlands East decides on firework by-law

Highlands East councilors have decided on a new by-law to address the issue of fireworks, and it will be similar to Minden’s.

At yesterday’s council meeting, the fire chief suggested fireworks will be allowed on holidays and one weekend before or after.  Outside of that, if people want to set off fireworks, they need to buy a permit.  Councilor Joan Barton said that way it can be more about education so people know when, where and how they can set them off.  That was the major complaint coming from residents that sparked the need for a by-law in the first place.
