New school start times would eliminate four buses

A proposal to change start times for three North Hastings schools would eliminate the need for four buses.

That’s mentioned in information released by the Hastings & Prince Edward District School Board, ahead of a Town Hall meeting to discuss bus changes.

A proposal calls for earlier start times for North Hastings High School and York River Public School next year. The change would allow buses to take kids to those schools and then pick up Bird’s Creek students, who would see a later start time for their school.

The meeting to discuss the board’s Transportation Review, is scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m. at York River Public School. The board is asking parents to register to attend.

School board officials aren’t releasing much other information ahead of the meeting.

MyBancroftNow.com reached out to a board spokesperson to ask about next steps following the meeting and how the changes could impact the availability of day care agencies. The answer given was to wait until the meeting, as those questions will be answered then.

MyBancroftNow.com also asked the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board if any changes are being considered for Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School, the lone Catholic school in Bancroft. The board said it will not comment.
