Good food is produced here in Hastings County and those who want to support local growers have an opportunity to do so next month.
Harvest Hastings is getting ready for its Let’s Eat event; a dinner that’s made all with locally grown food.
It’s at the Madoc Township Recreation Centre on April 28. Chef Andreas Applebaum of Gourmet Kitchens Catering will create the meal.
Harvest Hastings manager Samantha Harris says the event recognizes the wide variety of producers here, which includes meat producers, vegetable growers and those who create sauces and spices.
“We would like to get together to celebrate local food,” she says. “We’re going to experience a wonderful dinner catered by a top chef. We’re expecting at least 75 guests, but we’re hoping to reach our goal of 100. It will be great group of people who love good food and love supporting local.”
“We have a large range of producers of Hastings County; meat producers, vegetable growers. Andreas and myself will be investigating from our list of members what types of products he can include in his menu although his menu is catered to the taste buds of the local community. He has served quite a few meals and he knows what people like.”
Harvest Hastings has 77 members who proudly make food in the county and Harris says more than a dozen are from North Hastings.
Tickets are $35 per person until March 31 and $40 per person after April 1. Or, after April 1, you can buy a pack of six tickets for $35 each. You can place your order here.
