Little Blue Cabins group hopes to help homeless

A new Bancroft group hopes to help the homeless.

It’s called Little Blue Cabins. It has an online presence now and is working to gain charity status.

Kevin Taylor, one of the organizers, explains how it will work.

“We hope to help alleviate a bit of the homelessness problem,” he says. “I say a bit; there’s only 20 cabins in the projected project. However there’s a community building, where people can live together as a community.

“I guess the goal of Little Blue Cabins is to walk alongside people, to help them with a fresh start in life.”

Taylor says the group is in negotiations with a Bancroft-area landowner who could provide space for the project. He expects an announcement will be made next month.

He also says the project isn’t just about building the cabins; but building a community of volunteers who can help.

“People can live a life together and volunteers can be involved,” he says. “It will be staffed and all the staff, volunteers and residents will be trained in trauma and crisis prevention.”

In the meantime, he’s hoping more volunteers and tradespeople who can help with the project will reach out.
