Hastings Highlands resident charged with sharing intimate images

Bancroft OPP is reminding people about laws on the sharing of intimate images, after making an arrest earlier this month.

Police say they responded to a report of intimate images being shared without consent on April 6.

A person was then arrested on charges of transmitting intimate images without consent, extortion and voyeurism. No details on the person charged was released, except that it’s a Hastings Highlands resident.

Police say it’s an offence to transmit intimate images without consent. Anyone who knowingly publishes, distributes, posts it online or shares an intimate image of a person, knowing that the person depicted in the image did not give their permission, is committing an offence.

They also say an intimate image is defined as one in which the subject is nude, partially nude or engaged in explicit sexual activity, regardless of their age.

The person charged was released from custody and given a court date in Bancroft on April 25.
