Bancroft OPP seize weapons, ammunition in busts

Bancroft OPP seized a large catchment of weapons and ammunition in two gun busts last week.

The detachment says it executed search warrants at two separate residences in the town on Thursday.

Officers seized 10 firearms, a crossbow and “a large quantity of ammunition.”

Three people were charged. One, a 63-year-old man, faces eight counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm. A 40-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man were also charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon.  All three are from Bancroft.

Android phones may be causing accidental 911 calls

A new update to Android phones is causing some users to accidentally call 9-1-1.

A post on the OPP East Region’s Facebook page explains the emergency S.O.S setting is believed to be behind the “significant increase” in people calling 911 and hanging up.

They are asking Android users to go into their settings, search for emergency S.O.S and turn the feature off.
