Hydro One has planned power outage for Bancroft Sunday

A planned Hydro One power outage will leave about 4,000 Bancroft-area customers without electricity for much of Sunday.

The outage is expected to run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The area includes the whole town, plus areas south, such as Coe Hill, to the west, such as McArthur Mills and neighbourhoods to the north, including Bird’s Creek.

Hydro One spokeswoman Tiziana Baccega Rosa says the outage is to install three “smart switches” that will allow crews to more quickly pinpoint future outages.

“They’re really innovative and cool,” she says. “They will help customers and help our crews. When there’s an issue on that line, it will help us pinpoint where to direct our crews, instead of having them patrol kilometres of lines.”

Baccega Rosa was also asked what could be the cause of flickering power that some customers in the area have experienced of late. She said it could be trees bending wires.

She said, when customers experience flickering they should report them to Hydro One,  even if they’re just momentary losses of power, so crews know about it and can investigate. They can call the outage line at 1-800-434-1325.
