A new taxi company is helping people get around Bancroft, but its costs to customers will likely soon go up.
Backwoods Taxi opened in March, offering a rate of $1.25 per kilometre. But owner Darwin Baker told Bancroft council on Tuesday that a rate of at least $2 will be needed to help the company stay afloat. Taxi rates are governed by a town bylaw.
Council agreed to have a new draft of the bylaw written in time for its next meeting, after hearing from staff that the current bylaw is out of date.
The new bylaw will explore a rate that could be as high as $2.25 per kilometre.
