Luminaries will line Millennium Park on a night again this spring. The Bancroft Relay for Life is set for Saturday, June 10 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Canadian Cancer Society event has participants gather pledges, with proceeds going to programs that support patients and cancer research.
Flo Vandermeer, organizer, says this year’s event represents a return to normalcy after the pandemic. A small in-person event was held last year after two years where only virtual Relays were possible.
She says a group of Relay enthusiasts, known as the Bancroft Crusaders, are keeping the Bancroft Relay alive and are hoping for a strong turnout this year.
She adds, this year’s event follows the slogan, Relay Your Way, which means you can do laps around the parks, if you want. But if you’re not comfortable doing so, you’re welcome to just come out and enjoy the festivities.
The event will feature vendors and music. And, at dusk, luminaries will be placed around the park and lit up in honour of local survivors and those who’ve lost battles with cancer.
