NHHS student earns six-figure scholarship to pursue aerospace engineering

To say the sky is the limit for Qwin Goodwin might be an understatement.

The soon-to-be North Hastings High School graduate has just earned a $120,000 Schulich Leadership Scholarship to pursue his interest in space.

He’s going to Queen’s University to study aerospace engineering in the fall.

Qwin says he couldn’t believe his eyes when he opened an email, saying his application had been successful. Schulich awards just 100 of these scholarships across Canada each year, to students who excel at science and math.

“It was one of those things, I figured I’d apply for it, to see if I had a shot,” he says. “I never expected that I would win.”

“Then, when I saw the email that I had won, it was almost disbelief.  I had to call everyone I knew and tell people about it.  It was a really exciting feeling.”

Qwin is an ‘A’ student at NHSS and he also leads the school’s student council as its “Prime Minister.” He says he’s thankful for the teachers, who’ve helped him along the way.
