CHEO Foundation preparing for 40th annual Telethon fundraiser

Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Foundation President Steve Read says his team is getting ready to raise money to help sick kids in our region.

The CHEO Foundation’s annual Telethon fundraising event is returning for its 40th anniversary on Sunday, June 4th.

“The funds raised here will allow us to sit down with our counterparts at CHEO, the research institute, Roger Nielson House, and just work with them to say, ‘what are the areas of greatest need?’” Read explains.

“That could be in equipment, that could be in some of the program,” he continues. “That’s so common in pediatrics, whether that be music therapy or child life programs, even the clowning program that we have. These are unique to pediatrics and are a very big part of how CHEO has become such a special place.”

Read says the Telethon is important to help keep CHEO up and running, letting it take in young patients so other hospitals in the region don’t get overwhelmed.

“It really is something that we can really all appreciate having in our backyard, if needed,” he says, “and I hope that people will appreciate by watching the Telethon how important donors’ contributions are to making CHEO such a special place.”

The Telethon airs from 1:00 to 7:00 PM on the 4th. You can learn more about the Telethon and donate here.
