Ministry’s Restricted Fire Zone lifted, but day time burning still banned

You can have a campfire at night now, if you wish. But daytime burning will still be banned.

That from Bancroft Deputy Fire Chief Matt Musclow, upon the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s lifting of the Restricted Fire Zone.

The Ministry made much of Ontario (including North Hastings) a Restricted Fire Zone, from early June, until late Tuesday afternoon.

Musclow says although the Ministry ban has been lifted, the Bancroft Fire Department still has some of its own restrictions.

“We’ll return to our restrictions of no burning between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.,” he says. “And we’re asking that residents still do not burn large piles of brush. We’re just returning to allowing campfires, as well as charcoal cooking appliances and pellet appliances.”

Musclow adds the department will still not be issuing any burning permits.

Ministry Forest Fire information officer Evan Lizotte says we still can’t let our guard down.

We need to remain vigilant and safe with open flames, so we’re not responsible for human-caused forest fires.
