Tourism centre’s move to Museum paying off for Bancroft: Councillor

The moving of Bancroft’s tourism centre to the Bancroft North Hastings Heritage Museum is already paying off.

That from Museum Director and town Councillor Mary Kavanagh during what she says has been a strong tourism year.

The tourism centre was once in the municipal building, but council recently decided to move it to the nearby Museum, where it’s now known as Hastings North Tourism Services.

Kavanagah says the move makes sense, as the Museum, by the entrance to Riverside Park, is open to tourists more often. Staff there can help guests enjoy the museum and give out information about the area. And there have been plenty of guests, from far and wide, already.

“Our first visitors this year, when we opened after we built our new deck, they were from Denmark and Germany,” Kavanagh says. The same week we had people from China, who were visiting relatives in Toronto. So, interestingly enough, the Museum attracts people from all over the world.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the Tourism Centre/Museum will take place on Friday, July 21 at 11 a.m.
