A summer tradition will return a few weeks from now; the Bancroft Rockhound Gemboree runs from Thursday, Aug. 3 to Sunday, Aug. 6.
Town of Bancroft Planner Robin Tait says about 90 exhibitors will be part of this year’s event. It takes place at the North Hastings Community Centre and Bancroft Curling Club. Doors open at 10 a.m. each day.
Bancroft is, internationally, known as a great place to find rocks and gems, so this event attracts rockhounds from around the world. Tait says that’s a great thing for our economy.
“It brings in thousands of people,” she says. “Not only that, it brings in the exhibitors themselves. They’ll be staying at our local accommodations and staying in our restaurants.”
“Those kind of economic benefits, they don’t just benefit the Town of Bancroft. They benefit the outside region as well.”
Entrance to the show is $10 for adults, $5 for students aged 13 to 17 and free for kids 12 and under.
