The Quinte Region Traffic Coalition is asking summer travellers to be careful on the roads.
This, after the “Safe on 62” police blitz last Wednesday, July 19, led to 53 charges.
The Coalition says the majority were for speeding. But also, five warnings were issued, four Commercial Motor Vehicles were marked out of service, and multiple court summonses were given out. That includes summonses for stunt driving, careless driving and driving under suspension.
The one-day enforcement initiative is part of the Coalition’s efforts to encourage safe driving across Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
Throughout the summer, partners, which include Bancroft OPP, will continue to work to prevent what they call the “big four” road safety issues that are the main contributors to collision injuries and deaths.
They are distracted driving, alcohol- or drug-impaired driving, aggressive driving, and lack of seatbelt use.
The coalition advises summer travellers to plan ahead for a safe ride home if you intend to use substances, always wear your seatbelt, put your phone away and out of reach while driving and follow speed limits.
