Police crews, although hot and tired, are continuing to comb land east of Bancroft, in hopes of a finding a missing man.
That from Bancroft OPP Constable Joel Devenish, during the sixth day of the search for 75-year-old ‘Denis.’
“Within the search-radius area, the terrain is really rough and hilly, with a lot of thick brush,” he says. “I imagine they’re feeling the search wearing on them.”
Devenish notes that several police units are still searching. However, an Underwater Search and Recovery Team has left, feeling it has searched all the areas it could.
He adds OPP is in contact with the family of the missing man, providing them with resources to cope with their stress.
When asked if OPP is in need of volunteers to help, he said there are some trained volunteer groups already helping. He said it’s best for the public to stay away from the coordinating site at Hermon Public School and let the trained rescue workers focus on their tasks.
Search of Carlow-Mayo land would be challenging: Mayor
The Mayor of Carlow-Mayo says his municipality is willing to help with the search for a missing man if it’s asked to.
Police continue to look for the 75 year old in that community, east of Bancroft.
The man, who OPP have only identified as ‘Denis’, was last seen in the Bulpit Lake area on Saturday afternoon.
Mayor Randy Wallace says a search in that area would be challenging.
“That area, from what I understand, there’s steep hills, there’s drop-offs and very thick brush. I’m hoping they find him to give the family relief. Myself, if I could go and help I would, but police have said they have things looked after.”
Wallace says Carlow-Mayo is a “close-knit” community of people who are willing to help, if asked. He adds he does not know the family of the missing man.
