An expansion of the North Hastings Community Centre is nearing completion.
Paul Jenkins, Bancroft Mayor, delivered that news in a speech to open a recent council meeting.
Construction of a new fitness centre and more accessibility features, including an elevator, has been going on for months.
Jenkins said the centre, and a new meeting space in the arena, is expected to open in the fall although no exact date was mentioned.
He added that the majority of the “state of the art equipment” for the fitness centre is in place. Town staff is now working on a membership program, which will be shared when ready.
The work was made possible when Bancroft received a $500,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant for the project last fall.
