Fitness centre shaping up to be “fantastic facility” says Mayor

The opening of a public fitness centre and wellness space in Bancroft could be just days away.

Work on the space, in the upstairs of the North Hastings Community Centre, is almost complete and the town is now searching for people who could lead fitness programs there.

Mayor Paul Jenkins says he expects the centre will open later this month. The project was made possible by a $500,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant Bancroft received last fall. The fitness centre is being built with modern accessibility features.

“It’s a fantastic facility,” Jenkins says. “It has an elevator, accessible washrooms, shower rooms and change rooms.”

“The room was designed so you can use the whole space or pull a partitioning wall across and have the gym and have another function (on the other side). I think it’s going to be a great benefit to the town.”

Jenkins says a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening will likely take place around November.

In the meantime, those who want to learn more about the space or rental rates, are asked to email the town at [email protected]
