Update: Monday, Sept. 18

Numbers are in from the Terry Fox run held on Sunday.

More than 50 participants came out and helped to raise more than ten thousand dollars for cancer research.

It’s been 43 years since Terry Fox started his cross-country run to raise funds for cancer research and his story still resonates across Canada, including in Bancroft.

The town’s Terry Fox Run is set for Sunday, Sept. 17 at Bancroft Ridge Golf Course at 30 Nicklaus Dr.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon and participants can choose a 3-km or 8-km course.

Organizer Ron Speck says he feels a run like this, to support cancer research, has added meaning in a tight-knit community like ours.

“In Bancroft, as a small town, we seem to know more people and a lot of these people are battling cancer,” he says. “My thought is, let’s help them in their battle. It’s important to be part of the solution, to contribute to finding a cure for cancer.”

You can register in advance online at this website. You can also register on site, as early as 8 a.m. on the day of the run.
