Grant applications open for veterinarians in our region

Veterinarians can now apply for provincial grants up to $50,000 to practice in underserved areas.

The money goes towards newly licensed veterinarians who care for livestock and poultry, which officials say is meant to give farmers and large animal owners easier access to care.

Locally, that applies to Renfrew County, the Townships of Addington Highlands, Carlow/Mayo, Limerick, and Wollaston, as well as any areas to the north.

“We know that access to care for livestock animals is critical to rural and northern communities,” said Jill Dunlop, Minister of Colleges and Universities. “By encouraging new veterinary graduates to practice in underserviced areas, the Veterinary Incentive Program will help address labour shortages head-on, connect highly skilled veterinarians to great careers and support local economic growth.”

Applications can be made on the Agricultural Adaptation Council’s website.
