NHH staff receive Cat Scanner training, with machine due in December

North Hastings Hospital (NHH) staff are now receiving training on how to use a CT, or Cat Scanner.

That’s because the arrival of the machine that the community has been fundraising for is getting closer.

Quinte Health, the organization that oversees NHH, says staff from the Bancroft hospital are working with Diagnostic Imaging experts at Trenton Memorial Hospital.

It’s to prepare for the arrival of the CT Scanner in December. Quinte Health says the machine should be “fully operational by early 2024.”

A CT scan can get detailed images of the body and is used to diagnose an injury or determine medical treatment, often in emergency situations.

Quinte Health says they can “detect everything from life-threatening blood clots in the lungs, to brain hemorrhaging, acute appendicitis, or internal bleeding caused by trauma.”

Health officials say once it’s in place, patients will have better care close to home and the hospital will no longer have to send patients to Quinte Health’s southern hospitals for scans.

The arrival of the CT Scanner is the result of North Hastings Fund Development Committee’s Back the Cat campaign, a fundraiser which has been public since last spring.

The campaign is still accepting donations, as it closes in on a $2.8 million goal.
