Competitive field expected when Rally of Tall Pines returns Nov. 24-25

One of Bancroft’s biggest events of the year is now less than a month away. The Rally of the Tall Pines returns Nov. 24-25.

Rally spokesperson Ian Wright says about 35 drivers are expected at this year’s event, which has cars race through several rural roads, one at a time.

As usual, drivers will arrive for test runs on Friday, Nov. 24. The actual competition takes place on Saturday, Nov. 25, with activities based out of the Dungannon Recreation Centre from about 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The Rally is one of the last events in a series to determine the Canadian Rally Championship, which Wright says, is closely contested this year.

“Right now, the Canadian championship is wide open,” he says. “Quite often someone dominates (the series) and the event is sown up by the Rally of the Tall Pines. This year’s it’s not, it’s wide open, which is why we’re expecting a pretty good entry of championship contenders.”

The event typically brings out hundreds of spectators to some key spots, such as the Iron Bridge on Bronson Road and the Detlor crossing.
