Set clocks back, change alarm batteries this weekend: Fire Department

Daylight Saving Time ends this Saturday night.

The Bancroft Fire Department says that also means you should change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

“In order for all your smoke alarms to do their jobs, they need new batteries,” says Bancroft Fire Deputy Chief Matt Musclow. “Once a year, old batteries, should be replaced by new batteries.  When you change your clocks this weekend, Bancroft Fire wants everyone to take time to change all your batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.”

Musclow also says people should not overlook the importance of having a carbon monoxide alarm, as it can detect the “odorless, tasteless gas that can cause serious injury or death.”

He points out it’s the law for homeowners to have these carbon monoxide alarms next to sleeping areas, if the home has a fuel-burning appliance, a fireplace or attached garage.

The end of Daylight Saving Time means we need to push our clocks back one hour by Sunday morning.
