Demolition of Lake St. Peter fire station won’t impact service: report

A fire station in the Lake St. Peter area is slated for demolition, but Hastings Highlands officials says it won’t impact fire service in the area.

Hastings Highlands council recently approved the demolition, at a cost of $20,000. A report to council from Deputy Fire Chief Mike Bendell outlined that the building was in such poor state that the Ministry of Labour had ordered it closed. A demolition, the report explained, would just eliminate liabilities.

The report said, “the Lake St. Peter area is currently serviced via an ‘All Call’ (all station) response from all active fire stations in Hastings Highlands.”

The system has been in place for about a decade and allows for firefighters from any station to receive calls from the area to best ensure a prompt response.

Bendell told council the demolition will likely take place before the end of the year.
