Groups encouraged to sign up for Bancroft Santa Claus Parade

Organizers of Bancroft’s Santa Claus Parade are hoping for a strong turnout again this year.

The Bancroft Lions Club-run event is set for Saturday, Dec. 2, with participating groups meeting at the Bancroft Public Works Yard for the 2:30 p.m. start.

Club member Laverne Stapley is encouraging groups to register. Forms are available at Dairy Queen and McMichael Jewellers.

He says the event has a proud history, as the Lions Club has held it almost every year since 1945. The event, to the Club’s delight, usually has upwards of 20 floats and hundreds, if not thousands, of spectators.

“We don’t get paid for it, it’s just a community service that we like to do, to see the smiles on kids’ faces,” Stapley says.

The parade moves from Monck Street to Hastings Street and turns left onto Station. Santa will then head to the Lions Club Santa House, by the post office, and be available to families.
