Baptiste Lake Dam to be reconstructed

Cash will soon flow to a Hastings Highlands dam.

Ontario has announced Baptiste Lake Dam will be reconstructed, so it can better protect the community from flooding.

The province is spending $22 million to reconstruct this dam and five others in the province.

The exact amount that will go to the Baptiste Lake Dam is still to be determined.

The rehabilitation is intended to extend the service life of the dam for up to 100 years.

“With the growing challenge of increasingly severe rainfall events, these dams will help many homeowners avoid the financial and social burden of flooding,” said Dr. Blair Feltmate, the Head of the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation, University of Waterloo.

Baptiste Lake Dam, more commonly referred to as the High Falls Dam, is in an area just north of Bancroft.
