A movement to make the Tuesday that follows the American Thanksgiving weekend a time to donate to charities continues.
Local groups are getting into the act, with partnerships.
For example, the United Way of Hastings & Prince Edward says individual donations to its campaign made on Tuesday will be matched by McDougall Insurance & Financial, up to $10,000.
Likewise, St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundations says donations made to its Tree of Lights campaign on Tuesday will be matched, up to $16,000, courtesy of several service clubs in the Valley.
The Foundation’s Erin Gienow says Giving Tuesday is “amazing.”
“It showcases the generosity of our community more so than normal,” she says. “People wait for Giving Tuesday to make their donation, because they know their donation is going to be matched. It’s always a fun day.”
Lions Clubs from Palmer Rapids, Madawaska Valley and Killaloe, as well as the Barry’s Bay Legion, Barry’s Bay Knights of Columbus, St. Francis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Quadeville & District Service Club, are making the initiative possible.
