Annex Gallery show will support Little Blue Cabins

As the holiday season approaches, Bancroft’s arts community is in a giving spirit.

Next month’s show at The Annex Gallery will be a fundraiser for Little Blue Cabins, a nonprofit that hopes to address homelessness.

The show will be called a Palette of Giving and will feature works from several local artists, in a variety of mediums, from painting to wood sculptures and quilts.

Works on display will be sold, with the money going to the local group which hopes to one day set up a series of cabins that will keep the unhoused warm.

The gallery’s new chair, Debbie Christie, says it’s a new venture, as The Annex hasn’t traditionally held December shows. But, she said, the arts community felt compelled to do something this year, aware that Bancroft has a homelessness problem.

“The arts community has always been aware of what’s been around them; that’s part of their artistic perspective. They’ve always looked a local issues, and local scenery, and taken it to heart.

She adds that those observations motivate artists to “give back to a community that has supported them.”

The show runs from Dec. 6 to 24 at The Annex, which is inside the A Place for the Arts building at 23 Bridge St. W. in Bancroft.

An Open House event for the show takes place on Friday, Dec. 15, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature music by Little Blue Cabins’ Kevin Taylor.
