Community steps up ‘big time’ for Moose FM Spirit of Giving Radiothon

Moose FM asked the community to step up on Saturday, and the community delivered.

Our Spirit of Giving Radiothon led to a steady stream of donations for North Hastings Community Cupboard and Bancroft & Area Kids in Need.

At the end of Saturday’s broadcasts, which took place at No Frills in the morning and Foodland in the afternoon, the Cupboard had collected 1,455 pounds of food donations and more than $4,000 in cash. Almost $4,000 more was donated through the Cupboard’s Canada Helps page over the weekend.

The donations will support the Cupboard provide food for those in need through the busy holiday season.

The Cupboard’s Monica Piercey says she was writing receipts all day for donors. They represented a mix of permanent residents and seasonal residents, who care for the North Hastings region.

“This community always comes through, every time,” she says. “Every time we need something at the food bank, the community steps up big time.”

Kids in Needs’ Sherry Torrens says a steady stream of donors also came to her booth, where she was raising funds for the charity’s toy drive and snowsuit program.

The total amount of donations to the two groups is still being counted.
