At-home test kits for HIV are now available

Our local health unit is working with a company called GetaKit to offer free at-home HIV self-test kits for anyone over 16 in the area.

Getakit provides private, low-barrier HIV testing which can be done at home.

The testing process involves a simple fingertip blood sample, which is then analyzed for HIV antibodies using the included testing device.

Each kit comes with a phone number people can call with any questions or concerns that may arise during testing.

GetaKit also includes the option to obtain requisitions to be tested for other sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. These requisitions are shipped directly to the self-registered client to take to their local lab. This service is free and no health card is required. For more information or to register, visit www.getakit.ca.
