Public input influenced the decision not to change school start time

There will be no bell time change for area schools.

In March of 2023, Hastings and Prince Edward District School board held a Transportation Town Hall in Bancroft.

Because of issues relating to bus scheduling, a change of the school start and end time was proposed at three local schools.

The school board says that because of public input, thoughtful consideration as well as consultations with other school boards, the current school schedule will stay the same.

This means the bell times for Bird’s Creek, North Hastings High School and York River are not changing.

Moose FM spoke with the parent of a local high school student about her thoughts on the announcement, which seemed to reflect those of many parents:

“That buses are not going to be running half an hour earlier, thats awesome” she said.

School board staff say they are continuing to work with Tri-Board Student Transportation Services to find route efficiencies throughout the district.

Any savings will be incorporated within the 2024-2025 budget.
