Bancroft aims to start library build in the fall, still seeking funds for housing

The town of Bancroft says they are planning to start construction on Bancroft’s new Library building this coming fall.

The town recently learned they did not receive federal funding they had been hoping for to fund put affordable housing on top of the library building.

Mayor Paul Jenkins emphasized that this will not affect the building of Bancroft’s new library which he says they already have the funding secured for.

“[They] are two separate entities,  we’ve been granted the funding for the library and there’s a municipal portion as well” Said Jenkins.

According to the Mayor they are still doing everything they can to get grants that would allow them to build affordable housing on top of the Library.

“We sort of feel that with the great need for some affordable housing around here that it would be somewhat criminal not to build the housing on top (of the library). So while we have not been successful with the two federal programs, we’re still working with the province and other entities to try to get the housing portion included” said Jenkins.

The Mayor said they are currently getting plans finalized and trades and contracts in place for the fall library build to begin.
