Opeongo Rd fire leads to level 1 Fire Ban in the township of Madawaska Valley

There was a massive fire in Madawaska Valley yesterday.

Fire Chief Corwin Quade says the department was called to the fire on Opeongo rd just after 2:30 pm.  

Killalloe, Hagarty an Richards was called for back up pumpers, tankers and fire fighters.

Chief Quade said Killaloe came with 11 firefighters and Madawaska Valley had 13 on site.

“The fire took four vehicles, 6 buildings and 70 acres of grass and bush before we got it out” said Quade  

Quade said no one was home on the farm property when the fire was spotted by a neighbour and also by someone driving by “We go two calls 30 seconds apart” said Quade

“We got there just in time so that the house was saved, and 2 barns” said Quade.

Quade says the 24 firefighters fought the fire until 6:30 pm. There were no injuries and there were no animals on site.

There is now a level one fire ban in effect in Madawaska Valley township and Bonnechere Valley has also issued a level one fire ban.
