Curling Club gets better ice and energy-saving upgrades thanks to provincial grant

On Saturday the Bancroft Curling Club celebrated recent upgrades that were made possible by a $116,000 capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).

The money was used to cover the purchase and installation of a state-of-the art dehumidifier system for the arena and the purchase and installation of new fixtures and LED lighting.

Local MPP Ric Bresee attended the event.

“I am so pleased to see this Ontario Trillium grant, through the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport supporting the Bancroft Curling Club in its almost 70 years of operation,” he said in a press release.

“This grant will enable the Bancroft Curling Club to continue to provide a community of fun and friendship for many years to come”

According to the club, the capital expenditures will improve the air and lighting quality for curlers, improve ice quality and make ice maintenance easier. It will also reduce on-going electricity costs.

“This is fabulous news for our club and the community, as the club is used for a number of fundraising events in our community.” said John Wilcox, President of the Bancroft Curling Club.

The Bancroft Curling Club was established in 1957 and has operated every year since. It has hosted several bonspiels, including the 2005 Ontario Regional Men’s Championship and in March 2008, the Tim Hortons Colts Provincial Championship.
