Hospice board chair Michael Brooks says that during the finals on Sunday there were a few surprise upsets, but all the games were close and competitive.
“The purpose of the tournament was to raise money for Hospice North Hastings, most importantly, but also to promote the Shamrock Seniors Club and the game of snooker in the area. We had a great time,” said Brooks.
He said the funds raised far exceeded expectations:
“We had estimated we’d raise about $1,500 and we raised a whopping $4,855. We thank the community for coming out and supporting Hospice”
The money raised came from the Saturday night dinner, a silent auction, a 50/50 draw and donations.
According to Brooks, it was a “truly international tournament” with two women travelling from Syracuse, New York to join in the action.
Michael Dearborn of Gilmour finished in first place, Ray Boundy of Lake St. Peter finished second and Michael Brooks of L’Amable ended up third.
Organizers of the event said they wished to acknowledge the tremendous sponsorship by Ray and Kay Boundy and the significant contributions of Tony and Rita Klompmaker, Rob and Nancy Clements and all of the volunteers who helped.
