HPE School board conducts ‘School Climate’ survey

From May 21-31, Grade 4-12 students in Hastings Prince Edward District School board are participating in a student school climate survey.

According to HPEDSB, the survey is meant to help school boards better understand school environments, in order to make them safer and more welcoming.

Survey questions relate to topics such as inclusion, bullying, mental health, identity and diversity.

It is a requirement of the Ontario government that school boards conduct climate surveys for students, parents and school staff at least once every two years. The surveys are anonymous, boards must inform parents that surveys are voluntary, and they can choose not to have their child participate.

While some school boards offer different surveys for elementary and high school students, in HPEDSB, the same survey is given to all students.

Parents who would like to view the full survey can find it here:

Parents who wish to opt out of the survey can do so by contacting their child’s school.
