Several people have been sharing luna moth sightings on social media after someone from Baptiste Lake posted a photo of the bright green moth, asking if anyone knew what it was.
Many people commented, some sharing their own photos and stories of recently finding the moth.
Luna moths usually appear in June and are not seen very often as they only live for 5-7 days and are nocturnal.
The moths are the natural prey of bats and it is believed their long tail works as a defense mechanism to divert a bats echolocation.
It is also believed that the two spots on the moth’s wings are meant to mimic the eyes of a larger creature, to scare away predators.
In many cultures and traditions, seeing a luna moth symbolizes transformation, healing and new beginnings.
